A Smorgasbord of Truffle Topics

The 2021 Conference is CANCELLED

The AGMs will be held online at 3pm on Saturday 4 September by Zoom.

We are working through whether we will be able to hold a couple of talks by zoom after the AGM – watch this space for more information

For those who have registered and paid, please contact treasurer@nztruffles.org.nz to obtain a refund of conference fees.

The 2021 conference to be held in Taradale, Hawkes Bay on Friday 3 to Sunday 5 September 2021 is CANCELLED due to the current COVID 19 restrictions.

We are hoping to run much of the below programme in Autumn 2022

For the second time ever, our conference will be held over 3 days. It will be informative, inspirational; it will provide varied information for you to digest; and it will encourage you to share your thoughts and your truffle journey with others on the same path!

On Friday, we will host a number of workshops covering

  • truffière efficiency and practice – we are working through how we can still deliver this workshop given our guest speaker Noel can no longer join us with the recent ‘pause’ of the trans Tasman bubble
  • our very own Dr Alexis Guerin-Laguette will be demonstrating how to identify mycelium on plant roots with a microscope, and if fresh truffle is available he will demonstrate how to grade it
  • cooking with truffles, a chef presentation and potentially a discussion on value-add products.

On Saturday, our keynote speaker (by Zoom) is Marcos Morcillo CEO at Micologia Forestal & Aplicada , who has written a several books and who knows all about all things truffle. His talk will enlighten us on ‘How Truffles eat, drink and reproduce (To eat, drink and love from the Truffle Perspective).

We also have other fantastic speakers lined up who will cover a wide range of topics, including what’s hot and Co-ops.

The AGMs will be held in the afternoon.

The conference dinner on Saturday evening will be held at EIT following the busy day. The evening will start with drinks and nibbles and will be followed by three courses of truffle dishes.

Sunday will start with group sessions for various stages of truffière development and a gathering for regional groups.

Following this there will be a field trip to a producing truffière – including dog training tips from Prue Church
