2018 NZTA Conference and AGMs – NZ Truffles – The future
This year the conference was in Tauranga on 18-19 August at Trinity Wharf
Bill Lee – “My confidence in the future of the NZ Truffle Industry”
Bill along with daughter Jax have grown Kings Truffles into the largest truffle operation in NZ. Located in Waipara, Canterbury, the farm boasts over 6000 trees. In the 8 years since Bill and Jax began Kings Truffles they have amassed a wealth of knowledge and desire to develop and grow the business even further.
Colin Carter – “Development and Rejuvenation of Truffle Orchards”
Based in Victoria Australia, Colin runs a nursery providing a Certified Truffle inoculated tree supply and consults to other growers.
Murray Redpath – ‘The Role of the Hazelnut”
Murray has a commercial hazelnut nursery and is a hazel expert with an interest in truffles.
Gus Tissink – “Our requirements for Produce we sell”
Gus spoke about how Bidfood operates in conjunction with Food safety requirements, including truffles.
Vijay Patel – Environmental Health Officer/Food Act Verifier Western Bay of Plenty District Council – “Food Safety and the Sale of Truffles”.
Vijay presented on Food Safety aspects with respect to the selling of truffles.
Alexis Guerin-Laguette – “Successes and challenges of the cultivation of edible Mycorrhizal Fungi – will the dream come true”.
Karen Drummond – “Through the eyes of the dog 🐕 handler“.
Karen Drummond has years of experience under her belt handling truffle dogs. She spoke from her perspective of the 2018 season.
