2018 NZTA Conference and AGMs

This year the conference is in Tauranga on 18-19 August at Trinity Wharf

“NZ Truffles – The future”

 Bill Lee – “My confidence in the future of the NZ Truffle Industry

Bill along with daughter Jax have grown Kings Truffles into the largest truffle operation in NZ. Located in Waipara Canterbury, the farm boasts over 6000 trees. In the 8 years since Bill and Jax began Kings Truffles they have amassed a wealth of knowledge and desire to develop and grow the business even further.

Colin Carter – “Development and Rejuvenation of Truffle Orchards”

Based in Victoria Australia, Colin runs a nursery providing a Certified Truffle inoculated tree supply and consults to other growers. Colin will speak of his influences and learnings, developing new orchards, and rejuvenating existing ones, including his experiences as a nurseryman.

Murray Redpath – ‘The Role of the Hazelnut”

Murray has a commercial hazelnut nursery and is a hazel expert with an interest in truffles. Murray will talk about his work with Hazel trees – he will cover tree and root management for hazel production and in truffle orchards. He will also touch on the bonus and potential of growing hazelnuts.

Gus Tissink – “Our requirements for Produce we sell”

Gus will speak about how Bidfood operates in conjunction with Food safety requirements, including truffles.

Vijay Patel  – Environmental Health Officer/Food Act Verifier Western Bay of Plenty District Council“Food Safety and the Sale of Truffles”.

Vijay will present on Food Safety aspects with respect to the selling of truffles.

 Alexis Guerin-Laguette – “Successes and challenges of the cultivation of edible Mycorrhizal Fungi – will the dream come true”.

Our affable Alexis will fill us in on progress in the world of mycorrhizal fungi science.

 

Karen Drummond – “Through the eyes of the dog 🐕 handler“.

Karen Drummond has years of experience under her belt handling truffle dogs. She will speak from her perspective of the 2018 season.

 

 

Research Update – Our first in 15 years.

The NZTA has some small research projects on the go. The first research projects the association has embarked on for about 15 years.  We’ll update you on these projects and give you the chance to get involved.

 

Truffle dinner – Saturday night at the Trinity Wharf Conference Restaurant. We’ll be showcasing fresh truffle Melanosporum and Bianchetto. Mingle with other conference goers at the bar prior to your meal, starts 7.30.

Field trip

On Sunday we will take a trip to one of the local truffle producing orchards and attempt to have an array of truffle for you to check out, touch and feel and compare. Bring your own if you still have some as well. A 8.30am start, aim to be back 2.30-3.00pm at the latest.

Our programme for 2018 NZTA Conference is designed for you the New Zealand Truffle grower.

It’s a chance to learn, be inspired and connect with other growers and truffle lovers. Attending this conference may change the whole way you approach truffle growing.  We are simply busting for you to hear and see all this conference has to offer.
